Enriching the Experience of Hammonasset Beach State Park

Volunteer

Assist Ranger Russ at the Meigs Point Nature Center with greeting visitors, conducting programs and/or animal care. There is different training for each of these 3 types of docents. Watch the Meigs Point Nature Center website for the dates of training sessions, or email volunteers@hammonasset.org to be notified of upcoming training sessions.

This volunteer group does everything from beach clean-up to trail improvements. There are frequent opportunities to enjoy the park while contributing to its beauty.

This beautiful area adds to the educational value of the Nature Center by encouraging many species of butterfly. Volunteers can be found weeding, trimming, counting butterflies and creating signage. Click here for a copy of the Butterfly Garden brochure.

There are opportunities to work in the campground, maintaining the playground and reaching out to the park visitors.

The Plant sale in May and June and the Mum and Pumpkin sale in September and October are our biggest fundraisers. Volunteers are needed to sell, carry and maintain the plants during the sale. There are volunteer shifts available to meet any schedule.

Love to take pictures? With the many park events and publicity opportunities photos tell it all. Photos are needed for publicity including the web site.

Needless to say, there is always something happening at Hammonasset and the Friends of Hammonasset put the word out frequently in newspapers,  on radio shows, at trade shows and Chamber of Commerce gatherings.

This is a very important function as much of our funding comes from grants.

Fundraising comes in all different forms with a non-profit. We are always looking for new friends who can help us with particular events like our Spring Plant Sale, Fall Mum and Pumpkin Sale and Christmas Tree Sale as well as developing new fundraising ideas.

Help us influence legislation that will support betterment of park and the environment in general.
