The Claire C. Bennitt Watershed Fund Grant for Friends of Hammonasset
By Chris Bogucki
The Friends of Hammonasset recently received a $7500 grant from the Claire C. Bennitt Watershed Fund for the purchase of equipment and furnishings needed at the Meigs Point Nature Center. The following items will be obtained with these funds:
- Large Screen Digital Display Touch Screen with Computer for the Woods Room of the Nature Center.
- Interactive Osprey Nest to be constructed on the grounds of the Nature Center.
- Archaeology Display Cases at the Nature Center for exhibiting artifacts from Native American Peoples who previously lived in the area.
The Claire C. Bennitt Watershed Fund awards grants to organizations providing education in the appreciation of and preservation of our environment, with particular emphasis on the understanding of our water resources, the negative impacts of development and other activities on water quality, and the benefits to water quality and the environment of preserving watershed land as open space.
The Friends of Hammonasset is very appreciative of this generous grant which will enhance our ability to provide for environmental and natural resource education and advocacy programs. Our educators as well as our many visitors and school groups will benefit from this new equipment for many years to come.
